The cursor goes missing after installation

After I installed and rebooted, the cursor was fine for about two seconds before it disappeared. I can see that dragging works (the selection area is visible), but the cursor itself is invisible. For reference, I'm using VMware Workstation Pro 25H2.

I don't know about that. I swear I didn't enable the shadow cursor. PS: I'm using vmdisp9x as a temporary fix

I had this happen on Win98SE after updating VMware Workstation to 25H2. Fixed it by using the keyboard to navigate to Control Panel --> Mouse --> Pointers and setting Scheme to "Windows Standard" (I had it on "3D pointers", even tho I don’t remember ever setting that)
